The overarching aim of the project is to further knowledge about the role of the welfare state for climate policy attitudes. Are people more willing to accept decarbonization policies if they are compensated by a generous welfare state?

The research study investigates how and why school choice programmes are designed differently across European cities and what consequences this has for parental freedom to choose and educational equality. This will be investigated in three, inter-connected projects.

This project has three aims: to assess gendered trends in leave provisions across 31 countries since 1965, examine links between leave policies and gendered use using Eurostat Labour Force Survey data (2010, 2018), and explore how long-term exposure to leave rights influences mothers’ and fathers’ leave use.

The project fills the knowledge gap concerning opportunities and challenges for strengthening social dialogue in the exceptional COVID-19 pandemic governance related to social rights and working conditions of vulnerable groups.

Different paths to employment: special features of the Finnish social security system and problem areas in international comparison

Education and Employment Careers of Refugee Youth who arrived as Unaccompanied Minors and Separated Children. This project construct a very large and comprehensive panel data set from different sources, making it possible to follow children who have arrived in Sweden between 2003 and 2017.

Encouraging Fathers’ Care: Causes and Consequences of Fathers’ Parental Leave Provisions in Cross-National Comparative Perspective

In this project, we functioned as the Swedish National team providing input to EUROMOD. EUROMOD is a European tax-benefit simulation model. The input we provided pertained to policy knowledge, preparation of micro-data and programming of the Swedish tax-benefit system.

This project examines how the rise of women´s employment and earnings affected trends in economic inequality among all households, across OECD and European countries since the 1980s.

The changing balance between public service provision, cash benefits and employment in Europe.

Alcohol, drugs and tobacco constitute a major public health concern in Sweden. This project contributes with new knowledge about the extent to which the local preventive work regarding alcohol, drugs and tobacco in Sweden varies between municipalities and whether the work leads to reduced drugrelated problems.

Care leave – the right to take time-off from work to provide care – is a key ingredient for sustainable work and a rare area of welfare state expansion. As women now make-up a majority or near majority of union members in many countries, this project examines when and how trade unions mobilize for care leave policies and to what effect.

This project analyzes how distributional effects of de-carbonizing policies are moderated by redistributive social policies, and how this in turn affects the support of incumbent governments. The project generates new knowledge on how countries can develop socially sustainable de-carbonizing policies.

How are resources allocated to different vulnerable groups in need of social support? What are the principles and processes behind the allocation of municipal funds? This is a currently overlooked question, despite this being crucial for the allocation of resources to vulnerable groups with complex problems spanning different sectors.

A comparative perspective on earned income tax credits. The purpose of this project is to analyze if earned income tax credits (EITCs) are able to reduce poverty and increase employment, and particularly under which conditions these two aims can be pursued simultaneously.

This project evaluates refugees' health status and the effect of different asylum policies. We examine who takes the voluntary health screenings, as well as the health impact of having access to primary care during the asylum process, the type of residence permit (temporary or permanent), and the support given to unaccompanied minors.

In this project, individuals' life courses are studied, from birth to retirement, spanning from the 20th century onward in up to 28 European welfare states. The overarching aim is to analyze the impact of various welfare policy programs, such as child benefits, unemployment insurance, and sickness insurance, on individuals' health.

The overall aim of the project is to increase knowledge about the importance of social class relations for social cohesion and political divides in modern welfare states. A central focus is how social networks and existing political institutions together shape contemporary sociopolitical cleavages, from a country-comparative perspective.

In this project we study how student support and tuition fee systems in different countries are associated with student welfare, and whether this has consequences for higher education participation.

A comparative perspective on Swedish social policy to develop inclusive programmes for an extended working life

The purpose of this network is to encourage exchange and collaboration between senior and junior scholars, as well as PhD students. We achieve this by organizing at least one yearly seminar where network members can meet and discuss research and results.

How social policy design can maintain or mitigate income inequality. This project investigates to what degree social policy fails to mitigate income inequality and how income inequality is either mitigated or perpetuated by benefit design.

Investigating forms of collective action and their influence on environmental policies.

Many countries have introduced student loans to support higher education participation and funding. However, the proportion of students who use loans seems to vary greatly across higher education systems. In this project, we investigate institutional and individual-level factors that influence student loan uptake.

The project examines if the return rate of rejected asylum seekers is affected by the possibility to apply for a cash-grant in Sweden.
