Research subject Participation and Learning
This research field focuses primarily on young children and youth with disabilities/in need of special support, and the proximal and distal environments that influence their participation, learning, development and well-being through transactional processes.
The opportunities for children and young people to participate in social contexts and learning situations are of great importance for their continued participation, learning, development and well-being, also in terms of cultural aspects. The individual is seen as active and co-creative.
It is central to our research that children and young people in need of special support, or who risk ending up in exclusion, should be given the opportunity to actively participate in, and contribute with, their own competence in preschool, school and leisure environment. Our research also aims to support inclusive learning environments and to reduce exclusion mechanisms that may arise during childhood and adolescence and that may cause long-term impact on the entire life course.
