Child Language Acquisition for Teachers and Social Scientists
This master's program is aimed at cognitive scientists, psychologists or teachers with a specialisation in language. Here you get to deepen your knowledge in child language development.
The Master's programme in Child Language Acquisition is offered with two different study routes: 1) for language scientists and 2) for teachers and social scientists. The study route for language scientists is aimed at students with a bachelor's degree in linguistics or speech pathology.
About the study route for language scientists
The study route for teachers and social scientists is aimed at teachers, preschool teachers, psychologists and other cognitive scientists with a specialisation in language. Here you get the opportunity to broaden your skills with a linguistics education adapted for students with your study background.
The programme gives you a basic orientation in linguistic theory and methodology as well as in-depth knowledge in the interdisciplinary field of child language development. On the courses within the programme, you will be trained by teachers who are also active researchers. Together, we review current child language research and its most relevant methods. As a student, you develop your scientific approach and your ability for independent analysis. You also get to practice communicating your work orally and in writing.
The Master’s Programme in Child Language Acquisition gives you a broad competence for a continued career within or outside academia. After completing your master’s degree, you are eligible for postgraduate education.

Programme overview
The programme comprises four semesters of full time study (120 credits) and consists of mandatory courses (52.5 credits), elective courses (15 credits) and optional courses (22.5 credits), as well as a Master’s degree project (30 credits). It is possible to include exchange studies abroad in the programme.

Elective courses amounting to 15 credits (main field: Linguistics)
Optional courses amounting to 7.5 creditsAlternatively, the 15 credits in elective courses may be taken in the 3rd semester, in which case optional courses amounting to 22.5 credits will be taken in the 2nd semester.
For a Master’s degree (60 credits), the elective course credits will consist of Child Language Acquisition – Master’s (60 credits) course, 15 credits (main field: Linguistics).

Statistics for Linguists (LIM033)
Optional courses amounting to 15 credits.
If optional courses were taken in the 2nd semester, elective courses amounting to 15 credits will be taken in the 3rd semester.
