Research project Languages and recently arrived students – Language subjects in the Language Introduction Programme
The project investigates the organisation of the Language Introduction Programme in upper secondary school. We are taking a closer look at the teaching practices and language practices associated with the school subjects Swedish as a second language and English.
Project description
In this outreach project we consider language use, teaching practices, and the organisation of the Language Introduction Programme, focusing on the way recently-arrived students at upper secondary school are taught Swedish as a second language and English.
Previous research has shown that the organisation of the programme and its teaching are particularly challenging. This because high-stakes performance is often expected from the students after a very short time. We have been privileged to study this in a longitudinal ethnographic classroom study, in partnership with the teachers and principals concerned.
