The course contains an introduction to socio-pragmatics theory and method with application to Spanish
Spoken and written language is analysed from a socio-pragmatic perspective, particularly in view of the extralinguistic factors that affect communication and that explain linguistic choices and linguistic variation. Pragmatic phenomena such as social politeness and self-image are given special attention in the course.
