Psychological Aspects on Employee Selection and Recruitment
The course discusses selection and recruitment in the context of working life from psychological perspectives.
In addition to job analysis and processes for selection decisions, the course discusses individual differences regarding professional competence including education and experience as well as factors such as general mental ability, motivation, individual characteristics and values. Furthermore, financial aspects of the selection process and increased demands for equality in working life are included.
The course provides knowledge of concepts relevant to the field such as reliability and validity in relation to selection in working life. The course also provides in-depth knowledge of job analysis, choice of processes and methods for selection decisions and related evaluation processes. In addition, the course provides knowledge in describing measures to reduce discrimination.

Welcome activities

Psychological Aspects on Employee Selection and Recruitment, 7,5 credits (192 Kb) Spring 2025.Teaching format
Instruction is given in the form of lectures and seminars.
Submission of a written report is a mandatory element of the course.
Some teaching sessions can take place remotely, as shown in the course schedule.
The language of instruction is English.

Learning outcomes
In order to pass the course, the student is expected to be able to:
- define the concepts of reliability and validity in relation to selection in organizations.
- perform a job analysis that can form the basis for a person specification (requirement profile)
- choose appropriate processes, methods/instruments that will form the basis of selection decisions.
- evaluate the effectiveness of the selection based on financial benefit calculations
- explain which psychological processes that are the basis for decision-making in employment.
- describe measures to reduce the likelihood of discrimination
- describe measures to evaluate the selection process.
Assessment
The course is examined through a written classroom exam.
The language of examination is English.

This course is compulsory for the Master's programme in Personnel, Work, and Organisation, 120 credits, and optional with restricted admission on International two-year master’s program in psychology, 120 credits.
