Here you can find information about our courses and admission requirements for the different levels. Information about how to obtain a bachelor’s degree in Arabic with Middle Eastern and North African Studies or in Middle Eastern and North African Studies, our Master’s programme and research programmes and other freestanding courses can be found below. Please note that most first cycle courses are taught in Swedish and requires a documented knowledge of Swedish.


First cycle studies (Bachelor´s degree)

The education on first cycle studies is taught mainly in Swedish. For more information, please see the Swedish version of the website.

Mena II

Second cycle studies (Master's level)

All education on second cycle studies is taught in English. The Master’s Programme in Middle Eastern Studies is a two-year interdisciplinary program that provides deepened knowledge of the languages and cultures of the Middle East and North Africa, as well as area studies as a scientific discipline. The program has two study paths: Arabic and Area Studies.

Third cycle studies (PhD level)

On third cycle studies, the Department offers Doctoral studies in Asian Languages and Cultures and Middle Eastern Languages and Cultures. There are usually about two positions in each field of study (Chinese, Korean, Japanese and Arabic).
