We are currently looking for a Facility Manager of the Atmospheric Facility that is managed by the Department of Environmental Science (ACES) together with the Stockholm University Baltic Sea Center - closing date: 15 March 2022.

We are looking to fill a Facility Manager position at Stockholm University. The successful candidate will be responsible for development and operations of infrastructure for atmospheric research-related services.

Atmospheric science is one of the prominent research areas at Stockholm University. To further strengthen our research in this field, great efforts have been made in recent years to develop the necessary atmospheric research infrastructure for long-term, accessible, quality-controlled observations of atmospheric composition and properties.

Stockholm University has received major grants from Vetenskapsrådet (VR) for two infrastructure projects that will be coordinated within the newly established Atmospheric Facility with the Department of Environmental Science (ACES) as the host institution. The facility deals partly with the Swedish part of the European research infrastructure  programme ACTRIS (Aerosol, Clouds, Trace gases Research Infrastructure), which closely collaborates with ICOS (Integrated Carbon Observing System); and partly with a new infrastructure at Stockholm University’s Baltic Sea research station Askö and the research vessel RV/Electra (Baltic Sea Observatory for Coastal Ecosystems and Climate Change) within the strategic collaboration CoastClim between Stockholm and Helsinki universities.

The Stockholm University part of ACTRIS-Sweden will further develop existing atmospheric observations (mainly at Norunda and Zeppelin (Svalbard) stations) and set up a new state-of-the-art atmospheric research mobile platform. The Baltic Sea Center (BSC) manages the field resources Askö Field Station and the new RV/Electra and coordinates the marine operations from Stockholm University within CoastClim. ACTRIS and CoastClim are part of the national research infrastructure that offers Swedish and international researchers improved opportunities to understand connections between processes in the atmosphere, biosphere and hydrosphere and how these interact with the Earth's climate. This requires new types of integrated measurements of greenhouse gases, aerosols, clouds and trace gases in the same places where gas exchange and related relevant environmental processes at land and sea are measured. The IPCC has identified that the greatest uncertainty with today's climate modeling is linked to precisely such processes.

The Department of Environmental Science (ACES) is one of the largest departments in the Faculty of Science of Stockholm University. The department is divided into four units with more than 170 researchers, teachers, doctoral students and technical/administrative staff from over 30 countries. Research and teaching focuses on chemical contaminants, atmospheric science, biogeochemistry and (eco)toxicology. As an employee at the Department of Environmental Science you will be part of a dynamic environment with research in leading research areas and with a strong international profile.

The BSC focuses on the great challenges of the Baltic Sea and will, through an interdisciplinary approach, contribute knowledge to authorities and other stakeholders. Approximately 45 employees at BSC support and develop Stockholm University's marine operations by providing infrastructure such as field stations, ships and marine modeling for research and education.
