Conferences and seminars
Baltic Sea Centre researchers often participate in seminars and conferences, and our policy analysts are frequently invited to moderate events. Every month we organise the Baltic Breakfast - a series of breakfast seminars presenting the latest knowledge on key environmental issues for the Baltic Sea.
An important task for the Baltic Sea Centre is to disseminate scientific knowledge to various actors in society. We do this partly by participating in and organising various conferences and seminars, often together with other institutions or organisations.
Our involvement ranges from the Baltic Sea Science Congress, where we are represented on the organising committee, to the Skansen career fair for upper secondary school students.

Baltic Breakfast seminar series
Once a month, the Baltic Sea Centre organises breakfast seminars in the Baltic Breakfast series. The aim is to present the latest knowledge on key environmental issues for the Baltic Sea. The seminars are held at Scandic Klara, Slöjdgatan 7, Stockholm, but are also broadcast live on the web and can be viewed afterwards.
The breakfast seminars are aimed at the various actors in society working for sustainable development in the Baltic Sea region, but are also open to an interested public.

Baltic Sea Days in Almedalen
The Baltic Sea Centre is co-organiser of the annual Baltic Sea Days in Almedalen. The days are organised by a network of actors, organisations and companies with the aim of highlighting positive change and good examples of sustainable marine management both on land and in the sea.
The event is hosted and coordinated by Blått centrum Gotland, a regional knowledge centre in collaboration between Uppsala University, the County Administrative Board of Gotland and Region Gotland, focusing on water-related development issues.

Other seminars and events
Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre often organises seminars together with other institutions, such as other governmental organisations, universities, foundations or other departments at Stockholm University.
These seminars are sometimes open to the public and will be announced in our calendar as well as our newsletter. Most events are held in Swedish, but sometimes they are organised in English. Below are some example of events that have been recorded.
Law and governance in the Baltic Sea and the Chesapeake Bay
Often compared, both the Baltic Sea and the Chesapeake Bay regions are faced with eutrophication resulting from a number of factors. Governments in both regions have enacted a system of incentives and enforcement mechanisms to achieve target reductions for nutrients and total dissolved solids. This seminar seeks to explore the similarities and differences with law and governance in both regions: what is working and what lessons have been learned.

Baltic Sea Science Congress
The purpose of the Baltic Sea Science Congress is to bring together scientists working on issues related to the Baltic Sea Region and to present and discuss status, trends and the future of the Baltic Sea as well as future research needs.
The Baltic Sea Science Congress is a forum for marine researchers with focus on the Baltic Sea Region.
The 12th Baltic Sea Science Congress was held at Stockholm University 2019. The congress was opened by Christoph Humborg; Scientific Director of the Stockholm University Baltic Sea Centre, Isabella Lövin; then Swedish current Minister of Environment and Climate and Astrid Söderbergh Widding; then Stockholm University President. A video greeting was sent from Karmenu Vella; then EU Commissioner of Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries.
The opening was followed by a Mock press conference where five scientists, representing different areas of Baltic Sea research, presented the highlights from their research.
The Baltic Sea Day
The purpose of the Baltic Sea Day conference is to promote and strengthen the broad Baltic Sea research at Stockholm University, to inspire marine research, update on research news and to find colleagues at other departments and faculties with expertise that can be useful to broaden or complement your own research.
The confererence highlights Stockholm University’s ongoing marine research on different anthropogenic pressures in the Baltic Sea, as well as methods and techniques that can be used in assessments and management support.
