Exciting International Symposium on Epistemic (in)justice in Education

On 16–17 June, the Department of Teaching and learning hosted an international symposium marked by strong participation and engagement.

The theme of the symposium focused on how various forms of knowledge-related injustice — linked to, for example, language, disability, skin color, or gender — intersect within education. Special emphasis was placed on the role of language in issues of justice and inclusion in schools.

Over the course of two days, researchers and practitioners gathered for lectures and discussions on how education can both promote and hinder epistemic (in)justice. The aim was to highlight complex challenges — but also to open up new perspectives and pathways forward in both research and practice.

The symposium was funded by the network Language and Power at Stockholm University, and organized in collaboration with the research network Multilingualism in Education for Epistemic Justice and the research project Interrogating Epistemic (In)justice in Language Education.
