Surf a brand new marine data and innovation wave! The Open Sea Lab 3.0 Hackathon is an event funded by the European Union and allows participants to live-test the European Marine Observation and Data Network (EMODnet) data resources and services in the marine domain and to create and share innovative ideas for the development of useful ocean-related applications.
Taking place on 27-28 March 2023, this exciting event will bring together multidisciplinary scientists, software developers, social innovators, students, and businesses to harness the open-source, marine data offered by EMODnet. The goal of The Open Sea Lab Hackathon is to develop solutions to Ocean challenges.

The Open Sea Lab Hackathon welcomes students, young marine scientists and researchers, marine data experts, data scientists, and blue economy institutions to participate.
If you are at least 18 years old and have an interest in harnessing open data to co-create solutions to Ocean challenges, this event is for you! During the warm-up phase leading to the hackathon, you will have plenty of time and opportunities to form or find a Team. Likewise, during the hackathon, you will receive support from a great team of Coaches & Mentors.
The Hackathon presents six challenges, to protect and restore marine- and freshwater biodiversity, to eliminate pollution, create a climate neutral and circular blue economy, to contribute to the UN decade of ocean science for sustainable development and to empower social innovation.
Hackathon winners will be featured at the European Maritime Day 2023
Following the event, selected participants from the three winning teams will be invited to European Maritime Day 2023 (held in Brest, France, on 24-25 May 2023) to showcase and present their winning solutions.
Up to three members of each winner team will be invited to travel to Brest. Here the winners will take part in an enticing program of activities at the European Maritime Day 2023, enjoy pitching and exhibition opportunities to showcase their talent and solutions, as well as networking opportunities to interact with an international audience of policy, business, and civil society representatives.
