Laurens who is now a PhD student in the Department of Geological Sciences at Stockholm
University carried out the work as an MSc student at Vrije Universiteit, Amsterdam under the supervision of Dr Lingli Zhou.
Laurens was one of the recipients in the Economic Geology category.
Tromp’s thesis stands out for its remarkable scope and ambition, particularly at the master’s level. In his research, he challenges the established magmatic genetic model and, based on his own findings, proposes an alternative interpretation in which metasomatic processes play a key role in the mineralisation at the Olserum deposit in southeastern Sweden. This new model was later validated through a drilling program that also led to the discovery of additional mineral resources in the area. The result is a thorough and highly significant piece of work.
