New student
Thank you for choosing the Department of Linguistics! On this page you will find useful information for our new students.
Before your course or program begins, there are a few things you need to arrange. You will need to activate a university account, register as a student and find the learning platform Athena.
Get a university account
In order to register for courses and access all of the university's IT services, you will need to obtain a university account. The process for activating your account will vary depending on
- whether you have a Swedish personal identity number or are an international student
- whether you study remotely or on campus.

Registration
All students at Stockholm University are required to register prior to each semester. To secure your spot in the course, it's important to register during the designated registration period (see below).
If you are unable to register during this period, don't worry! You may have an admission condition that needs to be handled by us. Please refer to the "Conditionally Admitted" section below for more information.
If you no longer wish to keep the seat, please decline your offer as soon as possible. You can decline your offer by logging in to antagning.se (universityadmissions.se).
Spring semester 2025
Web registration for courses offered by the Department of Linguistics will open on 7 January.
- Registration deadline for courses starting in period 1 is 20 January.

Conditionally admitted
If you have been conditionally admitted to a course or programme, you cannot register online, as the department first must assess your eligibility.
Do not worry if you can not register at once! The department will handle all conditions before the start of the semester. Remember that you have until the last day of registration to get registered (see above).
