Research subjects

Mathematics is a diverse field, which at the Department of Mathematics at Stockholm University is structured in the three divisions of mathematics, mathematical statistics and computational mathematics.

At the division of Mathematics research is carried out in areas such as algebra, analysis, geometry and mathematical logic. At the division of Mathematical Statistics, research is carried out in areas such as biostatistics, financial mathematics, chemometrics and probability theory. The division of Computational Mathematics works with mathematical modeling and method development for the study of systems, encompassing mathematical proof structures, climate related problems, computational biology, and physical structures at the molecular level.

The research in mathematical statistics comprises probability theory and statistical inference theory with applications in many domains.

Mathematics

The division of mathematics is structured into three groups, which are conducting research in algebra, geometry, topology and combinatorics, in analysis and in logic, respectively.
