We offer a large number courses in mathematics, mathematical statistics, computer science and scientific computing, as well as several programmes. On this page you can also find information about PhD studies.
We offer several bachelors' and masters' programmes, leading to bachelors' degrees in mathematics, mathematical statistics or computer science, and masters' degrees in mathematics, mathematical statistics, actuarial mathematics, or biostatistics and data science.
Most courses can also be taken as separate courses, including some courses from the later part of our bachelor's programmes that are given in English. If you wish to take a degree with separate courses you must make sure that you fulfil the degree requirements.
Master's programme in Mathematics
A joint initiative by the Departments of Mathematics at Stockholm University and the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH), this programme provides a strong background in the mathematical sciences, in preparation for PhD studies in mathematics or related subjects, or for research and development in the industry and business sectors.
Master's programme in Mathematical Statistics and Machine Learning
Mathematical statistics is considered one of the most important tools in applied mathematics and our MSc programme offers you a broad platform, with courses in classical mathematical statistics and more recent courses in statistical learning, and opportunities to specialise and form a unique profile.
Master's Programme in Biostatistics and Data Science
The Master's Programme in Biostatistics and Data Science, a joint initiative between Stockholm University, the Royal Institute of Technology (KTH) and Karolinska Institute, offers a unique combination of biostatistics and data science.
Here is an overview of our courses in English and when they are normally offered. Many of these are part of one or more of our programmes but they are usually also available as separate courses.
PhD studies, or a doctoral education, is the highest level you can study at university. A completed doctoral education leads to a doctoral degree, so called PhD. As a PhD student, you are trained in problem solving, critical thinking, and using the scientific method. You will also learn to both work independently and to collaborate with other researchers.
In both a bachelor's degree and a master's degree there is a mandatory degree project (or independent project) included. You apply for degree projects through Universityadmissions.se, like other courses.
Some first cycle courses are also given as distance courses, often with online resources like recorded lectures. Note that even for distance courses, exams may take place on campus.
We usually offer some distance courses even during the summer, though some of these are in Swedish. In particular, the two specific courses required for eligibility to the Master's Programme in Mathematics are often given (in English) during the summer.
You can find distance courses and summer courses below by filtering by study form or semester.
