Philosophy professor Philipp Thomas from Pädagogische Hochschule Weingarten, University of Education – gives a lecture on his new book "Die andere Vernunft. Philosophie als transformative Praxis". He presents his theory of philosophy teaching as a transformative practice.

Philosophy professor Philipp Thomas from Pädagogische Hochschule Weingarten, University of Education in Germany, gives a lecture on his theory of philosophy didactics. His ideas are presented in his new book Die andere Vernunft. Philosophie als transformative Praxis, translated into English as The Other Reason: Philosophy as Transformative Practice.

The lecture will be about “the other reason”, which means reason beyond the classical conception of rationality. Reason, in this sense, connects with an understanding of human conditions, which is, for example, revealed through moral acts. Reason perceived as a transformative practice opens up to everyone, not just those with rational, argumentative gifts, to engage in philosophy. Philosophical didactics and teaching guided by this conception of reason make the subject more accessible, inspiring and existentially transformative.
