The project will provide understanding of how the family decision to take leave is conditional on expectations of the gendered workplace. It may provide new insights into how policy-making may benefit from a shift from the individual and couple to the workplace.

This project has three aims: to assess gendered trends in leave provisions across 31 countries since 1965, examine links between leave policies and gendered use using Eurostat Labour Force Survey data (2010, 2018), and explore how long-term exposure to leave rights influences mothers’ and fathers’ leave use.

Over the last 20 years, the divorce rate has doubled among women and men aged 60 and older in Sweden, in contrast to the flat trend in the rest of the adult population. The project is examining reasons to and consequences of late life divorces on living conditions.

Encouraging Fathers’ Care: Causes and Consequences of Fathers’ Parental Leave Provisions in Cross-National Comparative Perspective

Baudin et al (2015) has pointed out that “childlessness is an overlooked reality that cannot be explained by the current economic studies on fertility” and that childlessness is not the same as low fertility. This project fills this knowledge gap by analyzing male childlessness and, in addition, fathers' parental leave at the extensive margin.

This project researches Nordic models of fatherhood and gender equality as hotbeds of welfare innovation and explores to what extent some countries are trying to ‘import’ similar models.

This project examine why fathers working in occupations requiring the highest qualifications, such as medical doctors and lawyers, claim more than twice the length of father leave than those in occupations requiring the least qualifications, such as cleaners and machine operators.

Since 2010, fertility rates in Sweden have been declining. This development is rather surprising since Swedish family policies are internationally acclaimed for facilitating childbearing and childrearing. The researchers in this project seek to identify the factors that drive these developments.

Will the decrease in possibilities to get child maintenance support lead to an increase in parental conflicts and leading to economic issues becoming more dominant in custody issues?

This research project builds on a new data set on hiring in academia – a sector known for its dearth of women at top positions. The data set is unique in its scope and detail, covering all recruitment and promotion processes at the level of assistant, associate, and full professor at Sweden’s 10 largest universities from 2018 to 2020.

This project will explore new aspects about gender equality in the labor market, with a focus on differences in career achievements between men and women. The objective is to investigate the roots of gender inequality and potential reforms that can help increase equality.

This project examines how the rise of women´s employment and earnings affected trends in economic inequality among all households, across OECD and European countries since the 1980s.

This project explores the prevalence of intensive parenting norms in Sweden and their implications for childbearing, well-being and work trajectories, as well as differences in the nature of the norms across social and demographic groups.

Are older adults dependent on a good relationship for their health and well-being? What are the correlations between health and well-being, economic hardship and gender equality among older adults living in relationships in Sweden?

The project investigates why women's sick leave rates increase more than men’s when they become parents. We compare adoptive and biological parents to study the importance of going through a pregnancy for the risk of needing sick leave. We also compare same-sex and different-sex couples with children to study the importance of gender norms.

In this 3-year project, we advance research by focusing heterogeneity in career effects of parenthood, as we believe it can give us valuable clues to unveiling the underlying mechanisms of gender inequality.

Work, health, and illness among women and men during five decades. This project focuses on how social and structural causes (e.g., labour market transformations and shifting work content) are related to – and possibly created – the gender gap in sickness absence.

The project's primary purpose is to increase the understanding of labor market and educational effects of gender transitioning on Swedish adults and youth whilst considering two theoretically specified contexts giving rise to oppression: one focused on gender and the other on being transgender.

The project "Understanding health inequalities experienced by self-identified sexual minorities, same-sex partners, and their children", aims to broaden the knowledge about health inequalities experienced among those who identify themselves as belonging to a sexual minority and their children, as well as among those living in a same-sex relationship.

Parents' division of labor across contemporary families. The transition to parenthood is critical in producing and amplifying gender inequalities in work and family life. After parenthood, mothers take on the vast majority of childcare responsibilities. This project reveals sources of gender inequality in work and care after parenthood.

One aim of this project is to produce a Nordic overview of research and statistics on the socio-economic patterns and cultural aspects of parental leave take-up by young parents under 30 years of age. Another aim is to examine the consequences of these patterns for gender equality in the labour market and in family life.
