Since 2013, the pedunculate oak has been suffering from the outbreaks of the leaf miners. It is known that, in other oak species, the herbivory has a direct impact on the seed production and the quality of acorns. Acorns are the food resource of weevils and the acorn moth.

In this project, we want to gain insight into the effect of herbivory on the seed predators through the following two questions:

How herbivory outbreaks affects the production and the acorns size of oaks? and how affects this to seed predators fitness?

The project work includes both fieldwork and experimental labwork. Many interesting learning opportunities are involved!

Start of the project: Autumn 2019
