The project will provide understanding of how the family decision to take leave is conditional on expectations of the gendered workplace. It may provide new insights into how policy-making may benefit from a shift from the individual and couple to the workplace.

The project produces valuable knowledge of why gendered patterns in paid work, care and housework remain. We highlight processes behind working parents’ division of work, as well as the importance of demands and expectations in work life and family life for parents’ choices and priorities.

How do leave to care for sick children and its wage effect vary with socioeconomic position and family status?

In recent decades, European countries have seen substantial changes in family constellations. Using longitudinal data from five European countries, we examine whether the consequences of family constellations are constant for children and adults across European countries.

Encouraging Fathers’ Care: Causes and Consequences of Fathers’ Parental Leave Provisions in Cross-National Comparative Perspective

How have policies influenced changes in everyday life one year after the coronavirus outbreak? Cross-national analysis of parents’ experiences with employment, work and care

This project explores the prevalence of intensive parenting norms in Sweden and their implications for childbearing, well-being and work trajectories, as well as differences in the nature of the norms across social and demographic groups.

Couple co-residence is declining in Finland and Sweden. In particular, increasingly, less well-off individuals are not sharing a household with their romantic partners. Why is this so? This project proposes that changes in sex-ratios within groups who traditionally form unions together impact on the share never-partnered in the population.

In this 3-year project, we advance research by focusing heterogeneity in career effects of parenthood, as we believe it can give us valuable clues to unveiling the underlying mechanisms of gender inequality.

Fewer swedes are having children and fewer couples are getting married. Previous explanations no longer seem to be relevant, so what can explain the declines? In this research project the researches will examine this, using register data and survey data.

The project analyzes how information about names contributes to our understanding of social mobility over three centuries (1750–2020). Our main purpose is to study whether the surnames capture aspects of social background beyond traditional class indicators such as occupation.

The project "Understanding health inequalities experienced by self-identified sexual minorities, same-sex partners, and their children", aims to broaden the knowledge about health inequalities experienced among those who identify themselves as belonging to a sexual minority and their children, as well as among those living in a same-sex relationship.

Parents' division of labor across contemporary families. The transition to parenthood is critical in producing and amplifying gender inequalities in work and family life. After parenthood, mothers take on the vast majority of childcare responsibilities. This project reveals sources of gender inequality in work and care after parenthood.

One aim of this project is to produce a Nordic overview of research and statistics on the socio-economic patterns and cultural aspects of parental leave take-up by young parents under 30 years of age. Another aim is to examine the consequences of these patterns for gender equality in the labour market and in family life.
