A newly formed artistic council will build bridges between the theatres and theatre studies at Stockholm University. Together they will open doors for collaboration, research anchoring and diversity.
The Artistic Council in Theatre and Performance Studies met for the first time 22 May in the library at the Department of Culture and Aesthetics.
The Council is made up of ten professionals from various cultural institutions around Stockholm. They include directors, actors and playwrights. They will meet with researchers in theatre studies at Stockholm University twice a year to discuss current developments in performing arts, theatre studies and performance studies.
The Council is also expected to provide input and suggestions on how the course offerings and course literature can even more consistently adhere to the principles of equality, diversity and inclusion.
–We want to deepen the dialogue and collaboration with performing artists both in our education and in our research, say Professor Dirk Gindt and Director of Studies Sandra Grehn.
Through the contacts made by the Council, relevant research is intended to reach theatre artists and audiences.
The Council members also act as a link between the industry and students of theatre studies who wish to do internships in theatres or cultural institutions.
The aim of this is to ensure that theatre studies programmes can appeal even more to a new generation of students interested in theatre and performance and do justice to the development of the performing arts field.
