Myth and feminist theory: Beauvoir, Daly & Haraway

New dissertation in History of Ideas by Adam Kjellgren.

As the first study of its kind, this work uncovers the intertwined histories of feminism and mythology (the study of myth). Through the writings of Simone de Beauvoir, Mary Daly and Donna Haraway, it reveals that mythology has served as a resource from which feminists have drawn to articulate arguments of great importance for the historical development of feminist theory. Simultaneously, it demonstrates that these same feminist arguments challenge the very premises on which much modern mythology rests. Thereby, this study also offers novel perspectives on contemporary issues such as the role of myth in today’s world.
