About us

The Department of Statistics, within the Faculty of Social Sciences, conducts teaching and research in Statistics. We offer courses at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels.

Statistics as an area of teaching/research was introduced at Stockholm College (as it was called then) in 1903, when Gustav Sundbärg was appointed Associate Professor. The Department of Statistics was founded around 1950. If you want to find out more about the history of the department, we recommend the book Faculty of Social Sciences 1964-2014.

The Department of Statistics has about 40 employees in total. We have four professors and a teaching staff consisting of about 15 full time positions.

Currently we have 7 Doctoral students. Each semester about 700 students register at our department at undergraduate and higher level.
