With her extensive experience in international arbitration and her dedication to research and teaching, Daria brings both academic and practical expertise to one of the Nordic region’s most prominent arbitration institutes.

FAI, a part of the Finnish Chamber of Commerce, operates as an independent body focused on administering both domestic and international arbitrations and mediations. The institute does not make substantive decisions in disputes but is responsible for the administration of proceedings according to its own rules. Parties may also choose to have FAI appoint an arbitrator or arbitral panel in ad hoc proceedings where FAI's rules do not apply.

Ahead of the three-year term starting January 1, 2025, FAI has appointed six new board members. The appointment of Dr. Daria Kozlowska-Rautiainen, Stockholm University, marks a significant addition to the representation at one of the most esteemed arbitration institutes in the Nordic region.

Strong background in Arbitration Law

Daria is an Senior Lecturer in International Procedural Law with a specialization in commercial arbitration law. She also serves as the Program Director for the renowned Master’s Program in International Commercial Arbitration Law (ICAL) at SU Law. She teaches international arbitration, academic writing, procedural law, private international law, and dispute resolution, and is a highly regarded supervisor for both Master's and PhD students.

Her research focuses on international arbitration, with particular attention to issues such as document production and the grounds for challenging arbitral awards in the Nordic countries. Daria's doctoral thesis, completed at the University of Helsinki, dealt with one of the most debated topics in arbitration law— the scope and process of document production.

In addition to her research, Daria is engaged in methodological projects aimed at supporting students in academic writing within the field of arbitration law. She also has practical experience from her work at the Secretariat of the ICC International Court of Arbitration in Paris, where she gained valuable insights by combining practical experience with her academic research.

International engagement

Daria’s international perspective extends beyond research and teaching. She has been a guest lecturer at several universities, including Uppsala, Umeå, and Helsinki. She is also a member of the research panel for arbitration at the Stockholm Centre for Commercial Law (SCCL) and serves as an editor for the Finnish business law journal Liikejuridiikka.

With years of experience in international arbitration and strong connections to both academic and practical fields, Daria Kozlowska-Rautiainen will be a valuable asset to FAI, contributing in-depth knowledge of dispute resolution, commercial arbitration, and international law.
