Open Access to Legal Studies

Promoting open science strengthens both research quality and societal impact. This commitment is celebrated globally each October during Open Access Week, emphasizing a more inclusive and impactful research landscape.

Open science involves making research results, data, and scientific processes freely accessible to everyone. This aligns with Stockholm University’s policy on open science, which emphasizes the importance of publishing research outcomes and data under open licenses whenever possible.

The Faculty of Law is committed to furthering the availability of its research through Open Access.

Strategic Plan for the Faculty of Law 2023–2026

Legal scholarship is essential for understanding the role and impact of law within society. By embracing open access, legal research can extend its reach to a wider audience, both inside and outside academia, thereby supporting societal advancement. Open access enables research to be examined, validated, and expanded upon by a broader community, fostering a more resilient and effective research process.

Providing open access to legal scholarship empowers a diverse range of stakeholders—including practitioners, policymakers, and the public—to engage with critical insights that can inform their work in interpreting and shaping the legal system. By committing to open science and advocating for a more transparent research environment, we contribute meaningfully to both academic excellence and societal progress.
