Spanish Visiting Researcher at the Department of Law
This autumn, the Department of Law welcomes Celia Carrasco Pérez, a PhD researcher from the University of Burgos, Spain. She will spend three months at Stockholm University as part of her doctoral research on environmental crime within the European Union.
Celia is a member of the research group “Judicial Cooperation in Civil and Criminal Matters within the European Union: Procedural Instruments” (CAJI) at the University of Burgos. Her work focuses on how EU criminal law cooperation can strengthen the fight against transnational environmental crime, with a particular emphasis on evidence collection and judicial cooperation across borders.

“At this stage of my research, it is crucial to understand the dynamics of environmental crime from the preventive perspective of criminal law. In this regard, Stockholm University provides me with methodological tools that enable reflection on how the environment should be protected and what role criminal law ought to play in such protection,” says Celia Carrasco Pérez.
During her stay, she explores the preventive dimension of criminal law and how it can contribute to more effective environmental protection. Sweden serves in her research as an illustrative example of the interaction between EU legislation and national ius puniendi.
We warmly welcome Celia and look forward to following her work and exchanging experiences on how the law can contribute to a more sustainable future.
