Plats:E231, Språkparken eller via Zoom
Seminarietitel: AI in the service of runology: first results of a pilot project.
Abstract (engelska)
Runology is a field dedicated to the study of runic inscriptions from various periods. In this pilot project, we are addressing the challenges that arise in the interaction between humans and AI within the domain of runology.
Our primary source of runological knowledge is the Scandinavian Runic Text Database. This database, which contains information on 6,815 runic inscriptions, is openly licensed and currently exists in several different versions. One of these versions was created and is now maintained by Sofia Pereswetoff-Morath and Vadim Frolov. It is called Rundata-net (http://rundata.info) and since 2016 it has been extensively used in the teaching of runology at Stockholm University.
The main objective of the project is to develop an AI assistant capable of retrieving answers to user queries from the database. The result of answer to a query will be displayed as a database search, enabling the user to verify that the AI has understood the task and performed a correct search. A broader aim is to facilitate access to accurate information about runes and runic inscriptions for students as well as for the general public.
