Studying with a disability

Stockholm University offers different kinds of targeted study support for students with long-term disabilities.

The support is organized both through the central Disability Services and the department.

Before you make an application for support and adaptations, we advise you to read the following information:

Studying with a disability at Stockholm University

Getting started

To be offered targeted study support you first need to make an application.

How you apply for targeted study support differs depending on whether you are attending Stockholm university as a Swedish citizen, as an exchange student or as an international student organizing your studies in Sweden independently. Please see the central webpage from Disability Services for instructions on how to apply:

How to apply for support

Please make your application as soon as possible. You cannot be granted any targeted study support before your application has been approved.

After the application has been approved

If you are eligible for targeted study support you will, after your application has been processed, receive a certificate describing recommended adjustments. This certificate you need to send, in pdf-format, to the Department of Psychology via studiestod@psychology.su.se

The certificate is always valid until a specific date. If this date is approaching and you want to continue with study support after this date you need to contact the central Disability Services to get your certificate renewed. You can only be granted targeted study support while your certificate is valid.

If you need help, or have questions concerning your application for support or your certificate, please contact the central Disability Services:

Study support at sit-in examinations

The Department of Psychology has recently changed the procedure for requesting support during on-site exams.

For sit-in exams held from 23 April 2025 and onwards, requests for support are made directly in Ladok when you sign up for the exam.

This means that the separate registration via the online form, which has been used previously, will no longer be used.

The deadline for registering for an exam, including support, is 14 days before the exam date.

Special deadlines may apply around public holidays, and in such cases, we will provide information on the department’s website and in Athena.

If you do not register on time, you will not be able to take the exam.

Information specifically for the spring term of 2025

During the spring semester of 2025, only two departments at Stockholm University will be testing this new function for registering support in Ladok, one of which is the Department of Psychology.

However, the support application will be visible in Ladok for all activity sessions. This means that if you are also registered for courses outside the Department of Psychology, you will still see the support application in Ladok for activity sessions where this function is not applied.

Therefore, make sure to follow the procedures of the relevant department for requesting support for sit-in exams if you are also studying at another department.

During the autumn semester of 2025, this function is planned to be gradually introduced across the rest of SU's departments, so be extra attentive to any new information released during this period.

Shortly the Handbook for Students studying with a disability will be updated.

Additionally, e-mails with information about the change have been sent to students who have submitted a valid Nais-certificate.

Stay informed!

Our routines for study support might be subject to changes. Do make a habit of regularly checking this webpage and the student handbook to stay up to date.
