Exchange studies

There are several opportunities to go on exchange studies during your time at the Department of Education. You can participate through both the department's own agreements or through Stockholm University's central agreements.

The announcement through the department's agreements for exchanges studies during the autumn semester of 2025 is open from January 15 to February 15, 2025. Applications for exchange via department agreements are submitted digitally in the Mobility Online system during the application period.

Please note that the online application is done in two steps:

  1. The student fills in the online application form.
  2. The student receives an email from the system. Log in to Mobility Online via the link in the email (not the same link as the form). In Mobility Online, fill in the phone number and address, upload any application documents if needed and submit the application.

Easy, safe and many benefits

Studying abroad as an exchange student is easy, safe and has many advantages compared to studying abroad on your own:

  • You do not pay a semester fee in the host country.
  • You get help with your application.
  • The courses you study at the foreign exchange university can usually be credited within your regular studies, which means that you do not have to extend your study time here at home.
  • You get a comprehensive insurance that is taken out and paid for by Stockholm University.
  • You get help with getting housing.
  • Within the Erasmus and Nordlys exchange programs, you will also receive a financial contribution in the form of a scholarship.

The Department of Education has its own exchange agreements that are subject-related. The agreements are established with universities and around Europe and the world that offer a range of courses and programs in education.

Bilateral agreements

Exchange studies in bilateral agreements are free of charge, thanks to the agreement reached between our department and the host university, which means that you do not have to pay any tuition fees. During the studies, you receive study grants from CSN, but unlike exchange studies within the Nordlys, Erasmus and Nordplus programs, no scholarships are awarded.

Erasmus is an exchange program within the EU that aims to promote student mobility within Europe. We have signed Erasmus + agreements with all our exchange universities in Europe.

If you have been offered an Erasmus exchange place at one of our European universities, you are entitled to an Erasmus scholarship: Erasmus + scholarship. You also need to take a compulsory language test both before and after your Erasmus exchange. Language test for outgoing Erasmus students. Finally, you should write a travel report immediately after your exchange term.
