European Society for Health and Medical Sociology anordnade sin 17e konferens  den 6-8 Juni i Lissabon. På konferensen belönades Olof Östergren, post doc vid Institutionen för folkhälsovetenskap, med ESHMS paper prize 2018 för sin studie “Educational inequalities in mortality are larger at low levels of income: A register-based study on premature mortality among 2.3 million Swedes, 2006-2009”.

Juryns motivering

Delar av juryns motivering lyder: ”By combining sociological theory with rich data from several Swedish registries, applying epidemiological methods of the highest standard, the winner has been able to prove that social inequalities in health are larger when resources are scarce, because the availability of our resources becomes more important in such settings. Every decision we make becomes more important, when the availability of resources is limited.”
