Higher seminars

The purpose of the higher seminar series is to promote high quality research through opportunities to receive informed and constructive comments on research manuscripts. The seminars are internal, i.e. open to the department’s researchers and staff, as well as doctoral students in Public Health Sciences. The higher seminar series is also where doctoral students in Public Health Sciences have their half-time and final seminars (with specific format), and where new doctoral students present their study plans.

The seminar series is organized in the following way: A manuscript is circulated one week in advance. It may be in various stages of progress, but should give a comprehensive picture of the intended final product. Each seminar includes an appointed commentator (or two). Each session allows the author 10 minutes to present their work, followed by 30 minutes allotted to the commentator(s), and 20 minutes for questions and comments from the audience. As a general rule, the seminars are conducted in English.

Seminars take place on Wednesdays from 13:30–14:30 (in Haga, floor 5, Sveavägen 160) and can be booked by contacting Viveca Östberg (viveca.ostberg@su.se). Doctoral students are given preference as presenters in scheduling. Seminars will be announced via e-mail, with drafts sent out one week in advance. The manuscripts are to be treated confidentially, and are not to be circulated to anyone outside of the Department of Public Health Sciences (or the institute where the doctoral student is placed).
